Our 4th graders study ecosystems and biomes. What a great way to experience them first hand! The butterfly house portion of the BELL lab is transformed into a tropical rainforest when the misters are turned on! Desert animals like the sand skink, bearded dragon, and Uri-maxi can be seen in its habitat. The students can observe a fresh water habitat and compare animals living in a salt water ecosystem. Fish from five continents, Africa, South and North America, Australia and Asia, can be seen in our pond stream and Michigan tank. Also preditor/prey relationships can be observed. A special project they do is to build an aquatic ecosystem using two liter bottles. Guppies, snails and plants are collected from the BELL and placed into their bottles to create a mini ecosystem.
